About

John Smith’s Hill

At our eco-friendly historical farm, we are proud to offer products that are free from chemicals and pesticides. Our focus lies in cultivating organic mulch, aloe vera, rosemary, lavender, and a diverse selection of herbs. With a commitment to sustainable practices, we strive to provide high-quality, natural goods.

More than a century ago, John Elrod Smith embarked on a remarkable journey. Despite being met with laughter, he purchased a parcel of land in Spartanburg, South Carolina, known for its abundant “red clay.” Undeterred by skepticism, John Smith humbly tilled the land, growing herbs, vegetables, raising animals, and building a family. Today, after over six generations, John Smith’s Hill continues to yield exceptional results. We proudly produce handmade goat’s milk soaps, and African black soaps, along with an array of natural, homegrown herbs and vegetables. Let the story of our red clay serve as a reminder that belief can make anything possible.
